What's the source of these figures?
Someone mentioned these on another board I was on a while ago.
But the numbers quoted are about right. I think maybe a bit high for INTJ and other NT's.
I believe more the keirsey numbers rather than whats shown on most other sites (Which this likely evolves from). Biggest problem and even MBTI acknowledge it, is that the typings are only about 70% accurate. (Which pretty much shows that its not that reliable).
Well,
Here's some more stats from wikipedia.
ISTJ 11.6% ISFJ 13.8% INFJ 1.5% INTJ 2.1%
INFP 4.3% ISTP 5.4% ISFP 8.8% INTP 3.3%
ESTP 4.3% ESFP 8.5% ENFP 8.1% ENTP 3.2%
ESTJ 8.7% ESFJ 12.3% ENFJ 2.4% ENTJ 1.8%
Those are way off, especially for us INTPs.
From what year were these gathered? In what country, in what language? Who had access to the poll? Who knew their accurate type? How was the poll administered? How many people could read and write where this was taken?
INTPs, I know, make up less than one percent of the population, and ENTJs aren't that uncommon. These are a little too balanced. Kids are so often "trained" to develop certain functions when they're young, and this results in a few singled-out options for the kids as far as reactions. Those reactions get used over and over, and eventually result in a development of habits and type. The minority of kids will disregard the "training" and will sort of file themselves into their own type. Type has a lot to do with upbringing, which is one of the reasons that which country the poll was taken in matters. What effect did culture have on the results? An INTP can't survive without intellectual stimuli and complex systems to analyze, so I can just about guarantee that somewhere in Africa, there's a whole group with a lacking abundance of NTs. I can't speak for everywhere, but I can say that culture is much different in China from the culture in, say, Ireland or Canada or Brazil.
Your sources, too, are off. When you "heard it somewhere," the source is, most of the time, even less trustworthy than Wikipedia.
There are too many unwanted variables in this data, and whatever gamut of results were gathered from the study were skewed and inaccurate. Truthfully, though, I don't think anyone could actually find non-skewed results without blowing a couple million on polls, personality tests, confirmation of types with people around the world, and general expenses.
