    Default Myers Briggs Sexism?

Looking at the statistics for types by gender it is observable that
(refer to Percentages of Myers Briggs types )

    1) Introversion/Extroversion is shared equally by the sexes.
    2) That approximately there is a 1/3 : 2/3 split between intuition and sensing. Which has an approximately equal distribution between the sexes.
    3) That there is a small sway towards Judging in women over perceiving, but looking at the types of questions asked they favour "organized people" with respect to J hence its not hard to work out that "environmentally" women are expected to be organized *more*.

The % differences between the sexes as shown above are in reality little more than 3% which is within the error of the statistics taken.

*It should be noted that the questions asked by Myers may have been set to achieve the desired outcome*. By implication any measurement system must show difference to be worthwhile.

However where I have most problem is the Thinking / Feeling divide.

Lets look at the statistics for depression in the US. It is estimated that: In the course of a lifetime, roughly 20 percent of women and 10 percent of men will suffer at least one bout of depression. And that only 22 to 50 percent of those sufferring from depressive illnesses have their conditions properly diagnosed by their primary care physicians. A majority of these undected cases are probably dysthymia.

Source: in the know zone - depression

I believe that depressive/dysthymia tendencies (which is known to run in families ie Genetic) are correlated to the F questions presented, and by implication these result in a far lower T score. Given that 2x as many women suffer from these conditions (and allowed to express them "environmental conditioning") then it seems pretty clear that this T/F divide is just a gender division gap and not related to peoples true underlying thought processes.

If you take the 2x rule and apply it to MBTI statistics you'll see 2x as many women are Feelers than men. Coincidence? I think not.

Default Examination of the F typing

Ok let’s look at the type of questions that determine whether you are T/F.

You feel involved in TV soaps
You trust reason rather than feelings
Your actions are frequently influenced by emotions
You readily help people while asking nothing in return
You frequently and easily express your feelings and emotions
You tend to sympathize with other people
You value justice higher than mercy
You easily empathize with the concerns of other people
You are strongly touched by the stories about people’s troubles
You think almost everything can be analysed
You try to stand firmly by your principles
You consider the scientific approach the best
You find it difficult to talk about your feelings
You are easily affected by strong emotions
You willingly involve yourself in matters which engage your sympathies

Let’s try to isolate which are unisex

Let’s try to isolate IQ based questions which should be unisex

You think almost everything can be analysed
You consider the scientific approach the best
You feel involved in TV soaps

    And look at the rest.

You trust reason rather than feelings
Your actions are frequently influenced by emotions
You readily help people while asking nothing in return
You frequently and easily express your feelings and emotions
You tend to sympathize with other people

You are strongly touched by the stories about people’s troubles
You find it difficult to talk about your feelings
You are easily affected by strong emotions
You willingly involve yourself in matters which engage your sympathies

Don’t you think these are environmentally imposed stereotypes? If we take the propensity for “depression” and “dysthymia” and the ability to express emotions then women are going to type F pretty often. (Theory) It would be expected that T women suffer less from the depression/dysthymia?

The worst thing about the huge orientation towards “helping others” provides nothing to explaining what non F typing people have in consequence… other than they care less? Or that they have closed out any philanthropic type orientation?

Also, what if the questions were worded differently?

Instead of “engaged with Soaps” it was “very interested in football games”
Instead of “readily help people while asking nothing in return” it was “readily help your immediate family while asking nothing in return”. And so forth.

To me, it appears the questions are orientated to detecting observable female trait expressions and thereby achieving a split from males. The consequences for this are that because these traditional roles were observed in the workforce, they were therefore true.

Thumbs up Re: Myers Briggs Sexism?

I stumbled upon this because yes - certain things here are either sexist or are worded in a way that will definitely make men pick a certain answer for social reasons. A man, even a very sensitive one will never pick "yes" for the question about being engaged in tv soaps. Soaps are 'for women', soaps are 'unmanly', and they are universally mocked, thus no matter how empathetic the man actually is when watching FILMS, he will be very likely to say that he isn't emotionally involved in soaps. And the obviousness of the "no" answer is reinforced by the fact that most men don't even watch soap operas. It's not socially acceptable for them to watch soaps, and it is even less acceptable to get emotional while watching them. Thus I can hardly picture a man who would vote "yes" in this question, so the scores for the majority of men and women will be wrong because of this question being worded in a socially charged way. Other questions create similar but not so obvious problems.
Generally, the T/F questions are completely off, I think. I came to this conclusion after taking the tests 2 times - while in different moods. T/F was the only variable that changed in my score. I took the same test once again, and then took another test said to measure the same thing. So that makes it 4 times - and the only letter that changed was t/f, the rest remained the same, which I think means the questions for those are better in some ways.
