Well,

I thought someone somewhere in the ether might actually be interested in how my mind works, even if only to understand themselves better...

So, GOD will BLOG. I'll try not to talk about plagues of locus’s and concentrate on what and how I'm thinking about.

Anyway, let’s get this storm rolling....

Today I have been thinking about "Animal mind" and my subconscious has been throwing up lots of connective information and relevant facts. Basically I'm thinking about the concept and connective material is just arriving in my consciousness at a rapid rate. Its something that happens sometimes on my more creative things, Eureka's sort of knock you back with the wow factor. Sometimes it’s a huge signpost that points the way, but more often the subconscious has developed a solution that fits within all the required parameters.

The "Animal Mind" article will have to written this weekend coming up. I need to consciously polish it up and I need my subconsciousness to work on it a bit and hopefully throw up some more insights. I'll go into conscious thinking mode when I'm on the tube going to work in the morning.

There is nothing like being the first to see green fields where people have not gone before... the sun is always shinning there.

I'm working on the mini article for this. I had a hypothesis that effectively grey matter was an evolutionary adaptation with the white matter being more prehistoric, however, as usual its not as clear cut as that.

One thing of note though, I do believe that with males having 6.5x more grey matter and females more than 10x that it does relate to the Thinking versus Feeling imbalance between males and females.

For those that don't know, white matter is long fibre which acts as a conduit for relaying information and grey matter is fully of synapses which refine data. Also, Men have their grey matter distributed more widely and where it is more prevalent its in the local processing regions. Hence the ability to do complex mathematical reasoning. Whereas females are better at integrating and assimilating information from distributed grey matter regions.

Interestingly though, any male or female that has abnormally high (white or grey matter) in relation to their ***, could concievabily be far more "intellingent" as they would have both depth, speed and clarity of information processing.

Ps: volume of gray matter can increase with learning, and is thus a product of environment as well as genes. Furthermore no single neuroanatomical structure determines general intelligence and that different types of brain designs are capable of producing equivalent intellectual performance.

However! What about white matter? Can this be increased... ??? Or more importantly, can they be lengthened to connect more of the brain regions creating faster neural pathways?

While larger brains are weakly related to IQ, it would appear that the distribution of grey matter to specific regions is more related to IQ than overall size. (Which then would tend to indicate that other distributed grey matter can be enhancements on things that don't fall into normal IQ tests (Say musical ability etc). Hence, this is why a person with a high IQ may not be good at other abilities simply because their distribution is unique.

Researchers have commented that only 6% of grey matter relates to IQ (hence, just possibly the additional male grey matter isn't IQ related...) although it will perform other activities. IQ itself only measures certain ranges of abilities, innovation and visualisation are not in any IQ test I've ever seen.

Interestingly, IQ ability shifts towards usage of the frontal and parietal lobes in adults, which then poses the question... do some younger people have latent IQ that is only acualized once they become adults?

Grey matter appears to be highly heritable.

The question still remains... can males develop white matter linkages with use...

Update: Ok, Hippocampal and gray matter volumes decline gradually with age, whereas frontal and temporal lobe white matter volumes increase during the first 50 years of life. This links into another hypothesis I've always maintained: That some people start achieving their academic potential later than others. Imagine being grey matter gifted and then it starts linking up in your thirties... quite possibly this is when the truly innovative concepts kick in.

Doh Doh, nurture just lost out to nature...

Recent findings have shown, that variation in total gray and white matter volume of the adult human brain is primarily (70–90%) genetically determined [Baare et al, 2001]

And it just got worse (or better if you've flipped the lucky genetic coin)...

These findings point to a neural network that shares a common genetic origin with human intelligence. Thus, it seems that the individual variation in morphology of areas involved in attention, language, visual, and emotional processing, as well as in sensorimotor processing are strongly genetically influenced.

Something I noticed a while ago, and I've already mentioned (I believe) on this site somewhere is the strength of the INTJ type and how its underlying types gives it less variability.

Let’s consider that the trait could be changed by a factor of one letter. Hence the INTJ could in theory then be

ENTJ, ISTJ, INFJ or INTP.

ALL of these are strong types. Hence, the variability of the INTJ is lower. (And more difficult for other lesser types (Sorry, its just annoying that on other sites you see people that clearly are not the same as this type thinking they are the type) to believe they are this type). Interestingly though, when I simply do not get on with someone it is almost 90% of the time similar to a trait I do not relate to, generally the SPs. Then the NPs....

The types that are less intellectual and more problematic are the SP's. Both the ISTJ and the INTP could in a number of circumstances be more SP's by becoming 1 letter different. Hence the ENTJs and INFJs are stronger type sets (Believe me or not, but it’s pretty much backed up by what I observe in my dealings with highly intelligent people). (I've actually asked a few people who I rate in terms of the abilities and intellect in the professional environment...all 1) INTJ 2) ENTJ 3) INTJ. Interestingly the ENTJ plays on his socialability to move and shake, whereas the INTJs are just full on battering rams of intellect.
