To be a good athlete you have to have good health and effectively an alert mind. That bodes well for academics.
However, there is an even stronger reason and that’s one of attitude. Sports people compete, they try to win, and they will practise till they do.
Now is an athlete more or less likely to compete in the classroom? Do they have even more incentive to maintain their alpha status?
Hmm... This may need to go to the psych heresy section....
