Interestingly, I see tattoos more like indelible graffiti. If anything I see them as demonstrating lack of biological fitness, bit like makeup...

I see vested self interest statistics there. By implication on the "open to new experiences" it is self sustaining simply based on the gaining of a tattoo. People who have tattoos I absolutely bet smoke more than on the average and so forth.
