    Default Left handed divergence.

30/11/09 Update: New theory discussion here -> Left Handedness

It seems that the brain configuration in left handed people is potentially quite more dispersed than in right handed people, and as such that is why brain scanning type experiments (In psychology etc) use right handed people.

I've always had a sneaking suspicion that my ambidextrous childhood with my parents pushing me to use my right hand while I use my left foot for sports has had an element to play in being able to think both left and right hemispheres in parallel.

When I dig up the exact figures (again) on how the brain can be used differently I will present them here..

Anyway, just as a starter... consider this:

In his book Right-Hand, Left-Hand, Chris McManus of University College London, argues that the proportion of left-handers is rising and left-handed people as a group have historically produced an above-average quota of high achievers. He says that left-handers' brains are structured differently in a way that widens their range of abilities, and the genes that determine left-handedness also govern development of the language centers of the brain.
McManus also says that the increase in the 20th century of people identifying as left-handed could produce a corresponding intellectual advance and a leap in the number of mathematical, sporting, or artistic geniuses.
In 2006, researchers at Lafayette College and Johns Hopkins University in a study found that left-handed men are 15 percent richer than right-handed men for those who attended college, and 26 percent richer if they graduated. The wage difference is still unexplainable and does not appear to apply to women.

For right-handed people the right side of the brain usually controls emotion, while the left side of the brain tends to control speech and language.

In left-handers—about 10 percent of the world's population—the pattern is usually reversed.

And just maybe if you're ambidextrous then either and all sides can process?.... the true distributive thinking brain. Which then poses the obvious question, are right handed people as opposed to left handed and ambidextrous people more likely to be sensing linear types?????????? Also, if the left handed/ambidextrous types use processing in different parts of the brain, then the connections to other parts of the brains processing functions can be shorter or longer and so forth, all potential combinations that give rise to possibilities.

It appears that left handers think more quickly, and possibly is an adaptive measure that is now useful in sports.

I am ambidextrous, and interesting to note, my left handed-back hand (at tennis) is far stronger than my right. (Doesn't alter the fact I'm not much chop at tennis... )

It's something I have just found to be available (left and right handedness), has never been any encouragement/discouragement), I always have been able to use both, although my righthanded writing is probably a little neater...and prefer guitar playing left handed ...

You ever tried the spinning girl, getting her to move clockwise and anti clockwise? Reportedly related to left and right brain use...

I am able to stop/start, clockwise and anti clockwise, it's quite fun.

Hmm... I've seen this before and have been quite sceptical about people who see counter clockwise rotations and so forth. Why? Because its pretty clearly a clockwise rotation if you look at all the contributing elements in the picture.

To see variations on the seemingly "obvious" does this not place greater risk in the visual world?

Here she is, doing her stuff...

Ps: All the guys probably see her going clockwise, as they are focusing on her upper body attributes and they are definitely going clockwise. Which, might not sound as silly as you think... I wonder if people seeing her doing other rotations are focusing on one part or not looking collectively at the whole?

Default Stimulating the Left and Right side of the brain

Here is some interesting stuff on left and right brain improvements.

There is a lot of talk recently about the "Right Brain/Left Brain" issue. Basically, researchers have found that the human left brain is "responsible" for completely different functions than the right brain. Researchers have concluded that in every person, one of these hemispheres of the brain is dominant. According to this theory, the left brain is the analytical one, responsible for measurement, logic, math, analysis and the right brain is responsible for creativity, art, intuition and the use of words. (Although some people are simply both, esp the ambidextrous types, who probably have greater white fiber interconnections from an early age/birth, genetic and perhaps some nuture) Some people even claim that men are left brain dominant, while women are usually right brain dominant, and proceed to explain that men think in pictures, (analogies and visualisations) while women think in words. No wonder, they claim, there is such a big gap in communication between men and women! (As they say, men fall in love with their eyes and women with their ears).

Research has shown that it is very important to increase the communication, or the connection between the 2 hemispheres of the brain. If we do that, we increase the functionality of the brain. This can be done in all ages, and has proven to be beneficial. Improved balance between the two hemispheres, improves peace of mind, harmony, reading and comprehension, and develops better concentration and focus. (I'd like to see the experimental evidence on that. That would be very interesting to see and understand what sort of timeline is involved).

Default Animal Mind - Distributive thinking.

I just put my thoughts down in a mini article regarding distributive thinking and how it could apply and be enhanced in people.

It’s subject to ongoing upgrades as I find more evidence to back up my suppositions.
