Default Job preferences - by type

    Ok, I read that

"No preference is necessarily better suited for one job than another".

Which I actually completely disagree with.

Modern larger scale companies work on that notion of "division of duties" which means various roles are definitely more in line with various trait sets than others. While I believe there is some flexibility in type there isn't so much that people that are basically genetically hardwired towards certain preferences will do equally well in an organisation where individual ability is rated and measured.

It is very important that people are placed in positions that accentuate their strengths. A good manager knows this and acts accordingly in delegating duties. I'm not quite sure I fully understand the quote but I think I do and completely disagree as well.

To be a good manager you need to be a mentor. And to be a mentor you need to understand people and what motivates them, and realise that most people while having some motivation towards money it is often not the key determinant to getting the best out of them.

I've seen small things like a simple thank you and recognition of someone’s efforts can go a long way, being aware of when they are under pressure and taking action to alleviate it can help immeasurably.

Funny thing is managers are mostly self taught... and often not that well.
