Is Intuition really risk adversion?
Ok, While on my usual mind wandering episodes
I started exploring more my concept that most of our trait types have carried through from more "primitive times" and in reality we should be able to detect "baser" type tendencies that lead to these traits. (Jung would be pleased with this discussion I'd say!).
The trait that interests me most obviously is "Intuition" and the reasons for it. I've always intuitively
believed that it's a risk aversion/mitigation trait that is used to achieve better environmental fit (aka not be on the wrong side of Darwin's survival of the fittest).
Whether you want to predict people, processes then these all matter in the survival game. The NF's looking to understand and work with the wider group and ensure survival of the "tribe". The NT's understanding the season's, threats and so forth. Prediction, pattern forming and intuitively understanding the world, people and processes involved.
If my theory about intuition and risk is correct... then a test such as a correlation between vertigo and intuition versus other types should in theory prove this. e.g for a given level of bodily risk an intuitive is less likely to undertake an activity. (The reason for bodily risk is that it is the most baser type of risk.
Note: Intuitives do take risks and may take a lot more risk that most would ever contemplate, however it is very likely mitigated with more knowledge of the situation and contingency planning. For instance an INTJ may take a huge financial risk where 1) its not a catastrophic risk (i.e not lose everything or incur irreparable financial loss) and 2) The expected probability payoff warrants the play. (By this, lets say there's a 10% chance of succeeding but you'll make multi millions and if it doesn't work you will recover financially within an allowable timeframe).
