Ok, here is a simple pattern test to see if someone is pattern orientated.

Essentially you begin drawing an isometric cube stating that you are drawing 3 x 3 cut out cubes and tell the person to stop when they "get it" (In other words having seen the pattern - I believe most pattern orientated minds will see the concept and extrapolate quite quickly).

Once they have seen it, then ask them to draw it again until you are confident that they have understood it. I would say you could also use a 2 x 2 drawing layout as that should have sufficient complexity. Even when some people get it, they can't draw the internal lines of the cut outs, strange but its much more complicated for them. I believe this is because their mind is linear and sequential rather than relative and divergent. (A relative pattern forming mind immediately connects the effects of the different contours of the cut outs on the different sides of the cube and how they interact, a linear sequential mindset is trying to understand each cut out in isolation)

You'll be surprised that some people just don't get it quickly....

And remember... patterns are picked on quite extensively in IQ tests.. why? intuitively you should know why.
