Intuition versus Linear Sensing
I've heard people ask "what is actually sensing versus intuition and how can you tell the difference?"
Ok, the type of questions that are used to determine "intuitiveness" is as follows:
Intuitive tendencies (Sensing being negative answers to the list below)
a) You prefer to speculate about various options than to act immediately.
b) You think about destiny the future and its implications.
c) You easily see the general principles behind argument or statement of "fact"
d) You don't get bored with theoretical books and manuals.
e) You will submit to theoretical alternatives if they appear better than your own experiences.
f) You don't need to see it, feel it or touch it to believe it is right.
g) Generally Future plans preoccupy your mind.
h) You easily see the potential ways in which a sequence of events could develop.
Ok, it should always be remembered that the above list is used as a way to separate people along a continuum with those scoring higher and more to intuitiveness answering those questions to the "affirmative". Personally I would say they are reasonable proxies but not specific evidence of "intuitiveness".
Let’s look at the question areas in turn.
a) This is thinking, intuition itself does not require speculation. Intuition is knowing. However, stepping through scenarios can programme the mind towards "autosuggestion" where you intuitively know what to do without stepping through the scenario. You pretty much know the answer straight off the bat. Sort of like Fuzzy logic, expected probabilistic outcomes ranked. One important angle on this question though is around "speculating possible outcomes", this infers risk mitigation and the "if then else" permutations that Intuitives go through in thinking mode. I also believe "thinking" risk mitigation mode is basic instinct for "thinkers" who tend to be more aware of risk as they are less reliant on the group as protectors. So, in summary I don't believe this question points out intuition but it has some secondary characteristics and correlation.
b) Thinking about destiny its future and its implications is once again a thinking activity. Its about scenarios, it’s about preferences and risk. It’s about ability to achieve self determination. It has many of the aspects noted in a).
c) You easily see the principles behind an argument or statement of fact, in a) and b) we are looking at extrapolations of current conditions and potential corrective measures/enhancements, while in this case we are looking regressively back to understand the root or causal basis/logic. This question gets closer to the basis of "Intuition" as thinking/feeling develops "frameworks" which are essentially parameters of logic from observations, the better those frameworks the faster the likely correctness of anything can be determined. In effect absolute speed migrates from conscious thought to subconscious knowing, which is Intuition.
d) This is not highly correlated in my opinion. Although would show for a "workplace employable assessment" (for which these tests are designed for) an aptitude and propensity to accumulate technical knowledge useful to an entity. The notion of "theoretical" rather than "technical" could however be read to assume the test taker notices the difference which I believe they would not. An Intuitive person is more likely to have theories to patch frameworks of understanding and projections of ideas into a cohesive and logical format.
e) Submit to theoretical alternatives if they seem better than your own experiences. This isn't intuition it is more about rational deductive logic and the propensity to be "open minded". Important but not showing a manifestation of Intuitive ability, although shows the potential to develop logic structures.
f) Once again, seeing or touching not being a prerequisite to believing it, is simple normal rationalism. Not a manifestation of intuition although in combination with the other questions could be sufficient to approximate the tendency towards constructive and useful intuition. Guessing isn't intuition if its random.
g) Future plans preoccupy your mind. This is similar to h) which is a micro focus with the future plans being more macro in reference. This show propensity to use thinking mode which can transfer into auto thinking via repetition and thus be thought of as intuition.
