This works well to give a different perspective on your basic Myers Briggs profile.
For instance most INTJ's are a type 5 Enneagram, whereas a small minority c25% fall into different subsets.

I don't get these enneagram tests, each time I do one I end up a different type. Something a little weird going on.
Just taking the enneagrams at random times this is what I come up with.
Equally, (it keeps telling me unable to type me, and keep taking the tests) but this is the mixture that keeps figuring:
9 7 8 5 1 4
8 7 2 9 3 5
7w8 8w7 8w9 2w3
9 7 3 6
5 8 2 7 4 9
5 9 7 8
...and I know I tested 4 a couple of years ago.
Most of these tests are reasonably unstable. Like I say, its more you conscious orientation that comes to the fore in these, although supposedly the MBTI is supposed to be more your conscious orientation.
I think the MBTI tap's better into significant differences and these don't change much really unless you are reasonably boarder line to start with IMHO. I sort of believe anyone that is around 25 or lower in variation is effectively an X and can be in both zones. Given that you seem to type all over the place in MBTI then you're even less likely to type consistently in these enneagram tests!
One thing I can never understand is that all these tests miss a huge factor in peoples psych, and I just don't get why they don't try to tap into it. I'll explain what I am thinking when I get it all organised...
It's a good idea to dertimine your tri-type if you are struggling to settle on your enneatype. The outcome of the tests are always different for me depending on what mood I am in. I settled on my enneatype by just reading the descriptions and I worked out that I am a self preservation six. A social six and a sexual six are different to an SP six, but when you read the descriptions that come with the test it caters for all the variants so it's easy to get confused as it will list traits that don't apply to you.
I prefer MBTI over enneagram. When I discoevered my MBTI type it was like a ligtbulb went on in my mind and as weird as it sounds I felt a little more complete as a human being. But when I read my enneatype description (I intially tested as a one) I just found myself nodding slightly at some part...but it didn't feel like I had discovered myself and it never has.
I have a bunch of stuff to do with enneagram as I am currently trying to figure it out, if anyone is interested.
