Hmm, interesting, we don't know, what we don't know...
Kind of like the Greg Kinnear movie, (can't think of the name), about the little boy who was killed, then cloned, and began to have dreams/vision of past life...
I never say never....
Ok, I've got more theories. This time Darwin is in the firing line.
I've always had some reservations about the simple survival of the fittest, while I think it is obviously true I don't think it covers the whole ambit.
I believe life events can be encoded into the DNA and passed to future generations. There is evidence for instance that stress impacts various cells in the brain. However, my theory is a bit more programmed than that as I believe there is a distinct possibility that genetic changes are created by a systematic switching on and off of dna (in the sequence).
As an analogy I guess it would be the same as a taped song being slightly harmonised by the reader before being passed to the next listener, i.e. DNA has memory.
The issue then however becomes one of how can environmental changes actually affect the DNA in an ordered and structured way without actually being a simple mutation that creates better environmental fit. That’s the million dollar question.
The current theory I have, is that it’s actually the mind doing this. Is it feasible that the mind acts on dna (like I would assume it could on Stem cells) and reorientates them slightly, the question then would arise is how these get passed via fertilisation etc, The reason for this is that I stumbled on a documentary that cited than grandchildren could suffer the effects of a famine that their grandparents had undergone.
I think there are a lot of echo's in our DNA which learn from the past and extrapolate to the future. Which brings me to DNA waves, which is a theory I will inflict on anyone that cares to read at a later date.

Its a bit like the evidence slowly emerging that people who get fat have genetically children that are predisposed to being fat.
Now, with that obviously there's a whole lot of issues. Fatter parents are going to be genetically predisposed to having kids that are predisposed to being fat etc. Also, you have the generational time lag, I know kids now are taking energy drinks with all sorts of vitamins in them etc. How has food changed in the last 20 years etc etc.
Obviously though, the majority of change is just going to be enhanced generic varability which is selected for. My guess would be that genetic varability is constant through the body. That just as there are deformities or enhancements in the physical body then these are just as likely in the mind.
One thing that did interest me though is that the X-X female chromosome is effectively the safe bet, like a constant arrow through time, whereas the genetic variability of the XY is the wildcard that can if useful and desirable slowly change the flight path on the X side. The Y side is interesting because in theory that should stay completely constant over many many generations (like I am 50% my male forebears)... some scientists have even suggested that because the Y chromosme suffers genetic damage males effectively in the long run are doomed... well, I personally think not... as thats why I developed the Wave theory (another time though).

Here is some very strongly correlated "evidence" showing the change at a DNA level from environment rather than by simply "naturally occurring mutations and sexual selection".
The question then falls back on what I previously stated that the brain could actually affect the DNA, Almost a species could "wish it was, therefore it became". Think of hormones, stress... and possibly single minded determined thinking. (Which brings me on to another theory I have about very determined children aligning/changing/rerouting their brain paths at an early stage while it is being formed).
